BFWA is an Australian not-for-profit organisation that enhances the lives of hill tribe children in Northern Thailand. The hill tribe people live in remote areas scattered across Northern Thailand with little or no access to education. This lack of education makes the hill tribe children prone to poverty and vulnerable to exploitation within Thailand’s ubiquitous sex and drug trade. Those children who can get an education grow up able to take much better care of themselves, their families and their community (Source: UN). BFWA support more than 450 ‘at risk’ children, and most of these children have no parents or family to support them.

Supply Chain Management (SCM) is the optimisation of a product’s creation and journey from raw material sourcing to production, logistics and delivery to the final customer. For an example, to initiate a marketing campaign a client may need info packs sent out to their national network of stores. CostSmart would source a trusted printer and then manage communications. In this case the printer would normally source the raw paper, ink and other materials. During this process, we would liaise with the client about artwork and provide print samples when necessary. Once produced, the separate print materials are sent from the printer to our warehouse where they are carefully quality checked then uploaded in to our product management system. This system enables the client to view and order the product from their personal, fully customised eStore. CostSmart then manages the kitting of each individual info pack and coordinates distribution to each of the stores across Australia. This end to end management is a simple example of SCM.
